Rose gold luxury wedding cakes have risen in popularity in the last few years. One of the coolest metallics, it is used in everything from makeup to interior design. Sometimes referred to as pink gold, rose gold was first used in the 19th century by Carl Faberge, the world renowned jeweller to the czars in his famous creations, specifically his Faberge Eggs.
In a stroke of genius, he mixed copper with yellow gold to create an alluring pink coloured metal which was known as “Russian Gold”. The more copper in the mix, the redder the metal appeared. This alloy then became so popular around the world for the possibility of producing varying shades and hues of rose gold. A true rose gold is roughly 75% gold and 22.5% copper with a small percentage of silver.
Rose gold has been widely incorporated into wedding decor design for a number of years now, so it’s no surprise that it’s become the metallic of choice for spring and summer weddings. A bold choice for couples who love something different, it makes for a glamorous and chic wedding cake.

Rose gold is such a versatile metallic and we have created bas relief rose gold cakes, rose gold watercolour wash cakes, crackle effect rose gold cakes and even paired rose gold with bright gold for contrast. Rose gold is also the perfect blank canvas for sugar flowers, whether pale pastels or deep rich jewelled tones and can look very elegant against white. One of the most dramatic cakes we ever created was for one of our couples whose love for rose gold knew no bounds. They got married on the beach of an exclusive beach club that was set high upon cliffs in Ibiza. They wanted a tall and dramatic wedding cake and we happily obliged. We created a beautiful wedding cake made up of tiers of white and rose gold bas relief with sugar flowers that matched the blush and white wedding flowers. As it turned out, the colour of the rocky cliffs were a perfect match for the rose gold hue we chose and the couple could not have been any happier.
